The Millipicnic comes but once a year.

This year's Millipicnic is scheduled for Saturday, 11/16/02.

This year it will be at a private residence. Rather than including directions and details on said private residence, let us just say to please email mw@thenewhouse.org for info.

below, an old mw millipicnic thread, for historical interest.

but what is a milli-picnic? Had to ask.

#31/42: By: HAL 9000 (#73) : the millipicnic is an annual event wherein
 07/01/98 08:34pm

all the folks who post on milliways get together and have a picnic at Will
Rogers (I think) Park.

OK, i will make the decision, seeing as I think everyone is waiting for me to
do so. Well, I looked at all the stuff I gotta do in July before La's sister's
fetus goes neonatal, and, uh, the ideal millipicnic is the same day as last
year. Except that the Earth's orbit dictates that the date this year is July
12 instead of July 13. Sunday, July, 12, around 1 PM. I don't make the
universe, I just measure time. Sunday, July 12, around 1 PM. I am going to
make a Sign. It will say:

                                    MW.

Most of our users know this drill. Some times, the Sign gets inverted by wind
or entropy. If so, it will not say,

                                    MW,

because it is upside down. It will, of course, say,

                                    MW.

So you will find us, because our Sign will say either MW or MW.

There is very little time. I will be contacting everyone I have net addresses
for. This will work. Those who read this, and know how to contact our
wandering souls, contact them.

We need a name. Unless someone thinks fast, this is the Annual La Nina
Millipicnic. So think fast.

I will post the directions as soon as I find them. Hours, not days.

PS: a millipicnic is only peripherally for eating. A millipicnic is also for
Being. You are unusually sentient beings, and you know what to do.

i have thought fast.

the name of this year's thousand millipicnics ("you don't want to starve")
is: manic niacin pail.

#34/42: By: HAL 9000 (#73) : manic niacin pail.
 07/05/98 02:12pm

Does this imply a need for some kind of pain killer?

#35/42: By: Radio Free Willy (#3) : el nino is free

we have video.

the millipicnic should somehow celebrate the liberation of el nino.

#36/42: By: Radio Free Willy (#3) : Directions, take 1
 07/05/98 04:37pm

This is off the top of my head....

San Vicente to Allenford, Allenford to Sunset Blvd., or 405 to Sunset, or just
come out the whole way on Sunset blvd.

In any event, Allenford is the edge of pacific palisades.

One mile to the west is a street called Amalfi. Phyllis Diller lives there.
This is not relevant. Amalfi is the last street before you drop into a deep
canyon. Sunset in this canyon twists a lot. It is 3/4 of a mile from Amalfi
to Will Rogers State Park Road. You take a right in from Sunset. There are
hills. If you go to downtown pacific palisades, you've gone too far, turn
back.

3/4 mile uphill you come upon a state park gate. It costs to get past, so
carpooling is recommended. It doesn't cost a lot. Something like 5 bucks.
The state park people do a very nice job, and they deserve the money.

So you pay the nice people, and go through the guardhouse, then there's several
parking lots. If you can find room in the one at the top of the hill, above
the polo field, right next to the house, that's the best one. otherwise, there
are several more. It's a pretty spot, and the walk is fun.

The park is called Will Rogers State Park. It's the movie cowboy's old home,
which you can look inside of. (He gave it to the state.) We are usually near
this house, under a tree, on a large lawn you might recognize from Star Trek,
but most likely not. (The Bird of Prey landed there....)

I will make a map. Hours, not days. But for now, hie we to art studio.

it might actually be better to go past the guardhouse, than through it.

"near the house" is relative. we've always been roughly halfway up the
large lawn that slopes gently uphill starting at the house; we've been
on the left side, as one walks up the slope.

#41/42: By: Radio Free Willy (#3) : What you see
 07/06/98 02:48pm

Thok has it right. You go up the hill from Sunset. You pays yer money. You
takes yer cherce, parking wise. Now you find the house. Looking uphill from
the polo field/parking areas/tour offices/biffies you find the large lawn next
to the house. This slopes up into the hills, and tapers. It's not as big as
it looks. (When you're walking up that hill, it looks huge, but it is not.
Maybe the size of a large soccer field with its NE corner missing, because
that's where the horse trail is.)

Lately, we've been going up a dirt road from the house, and maybe 100-150 feet
to a shady spot with trees. We've been picking a tree and setting up under
same. This would be on your left, and once you're past the house you're in
shouting distance. You can look for a strange bunch with a sign

                                     MW

and if the Martin Weiner family picnic is there, and if they tend to be rather
odd people as well, then you look for Radio Free Willy, who will have a
thunderbolt stuck through his head, and will most likely be listening to the
World Cup final, if it's still on. (How 'bout Brazil's goalkeeper, saved their
sorry butts today...)

As has been often noted, a millipicnic is not a typical dorky user meeting. A
millipicnic is an opportunity to exist. You don't have to give your real name.
I still don't know half of them for sure. You only have to think of strange

and wonderful things to do/be. Doo bee doo bee doo.
